What to Expect on Your First Visit
There is a lot to cover at a well visit, and we want to be thorough, so we always allow ample time to ask our questions and to answer yours. Because of this priority, we typically schedule only 2 well-child checks per family during your visit. Most checkups will vary from 30-45 minutes depending on the age of your child. If this is the first time your child is being seen by our office, we need to get as complete a history as possible in order to care for them appropriately, so be ready for a little extra time and attention!
We take many insurance carriers, BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Connecticare (we are out of network for the Passage plan), Medicaid Husky Health, Multiplan, Oxford, United Healthcare, Tricare to list a few. If you have questions, please call and speak with the billing department.
STEP 1: Fill Out the Record Release Authorization Form(s)
Before you can schedule an appointment with our office, we will need to know your child's past history. To help expedite this, we ask that you please request your child's full medical records from your previous pediatrician(s). This would include doctor notes, immunizations, your family medical history, your child's medical history, and all relevant insurance information. You can fill out either their release form or our authorization form to release these records to our office. Please click here to download the form or stop by the office to pick up a hard copy. We can fax it right to your previous provider(s). Most records tend to arrive within 2 weeks or so. Providers have up to 30 days after receipt of request to release records under HIPAA Privacy rule. Our office can not control how fast your previous provider sends the records. When the records are received, we will call you to schedule an appointment.
STEP 2: First Appointment
Once the appointment is scheduled, we will ask you to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out new patient forms. To expedite your visit, you can click here for New Patient forms to download and bring with you to your first appointment. Please read our COVID procedures prior to arriving. If you have not been called for an appointment within 2 weeks, please call our office or your previous provider to find out the status of your records. We do work very hard to ensure that your child receives prompt medical care in a comfortable, child-friendly office setting. Call us at 203-469-8882.
STEP 3: Examination & Review
During your visit we will talk to you and your child about their overall health, perform a routine physical examination, and carry out any necessary tests or procedures. After we have reviewed the exam, we will go through the details with you and also make recommendations for a plan of action and when you should come back again. Asking questions is encouraged!
